Do They Know?

My wife’s 62-year-old sister, Diane, died last year. She was a one of a kind, larger-than-life personality who leaves a gaping hole in our lives and in the life of her community in Covington, Tennessee.

Vicki wrote of her sister, "We grew up at the Baptist Children’s Home in Memphis. In high school she worked at McDonald's, so she could fund all my extracurricular activities that I would not have been able to do. She would surprise me and leave money on my pillow when she got paid. I will miss her every day for as long as I live."

One niece talked of frequently taking her daughter, Sarah Katherine, to Diane's small grocery store down the street. Kim said, "As we would go into the store, Diane would proudly announce to everyone we were her family!! EVERY time. Then she would tell Sarah Katherine, 'Just take whatever you want.'"

Kim went on to write about her Aunt Diane, "Every time I was with her she was so proud to announce to the world that I belonged to her!! That’s a great feeling to have in life. Someone to claim you, to be protective of you, and to be proud of you. This is the true definition of family I think."

Let those words sink in.

The people who are closest to you - Do they know that you claim them above all others? That you will protect them at all costs? That you are insanely proud of them?

Who do you need to call or write today?
